As if pet owners didn’t already know…

This photograph shows a community of apes apparently grief stricken at the sight of one of their elderly members who passed away, Dorothy. Some of the apes looking on are ones that she raised. The normally loud and active apes sat in silence - with their arms on each others shoulders - as Dorothy was buried. Scientists say that in recent years it is becoming more obvious that animals do indeed understand death and mourn the loss of others. Read more here.
